About this site

Who writes this, the hardware and method behind the measurements, how often figures get re-tested, and how the site makes money. The things worth knowing before trusting a review.

Who

Been testing proxy services since 2019, usually running 4-6 subscriptions in parallel.

First paid subscription was in 2019, for reading papers. Then cross-border work. Then ChatGPT. Along the way: three services that vanished with my money, countless free subscriptions that died overnight, and one annual plan whose operator disappeared eight weeks in.

How things get tested

Primary line is a 500 Mbps residential fibre connection, with a second 300 Mbps line at a friend's place for cross-checking. Throughput via speedtest-cli and fast.com, latency via the client's own latency test, streaming verified by actually playing 4K content rather than trusting a region-detection page.

Every number carries a date. Anything I have not re-tested in three months gets flagged at the top of the article, because three months is plenty of time for this space to turn over completely.

How this site makes money

Links to paid services are affiliate links. If you sign up through one, I get a commission and you pay exactly the same price. See the affiliate disclosure.

I do not take paid-review work. Downsides get written down — a review with no criticism in it is not a review.
